On one hand, I totally dig the fact that my kid isn't worried about fashion, labels or having the "it" stuff. On the other hand, sometimes I don't actually want to be seen in public with her.

Right there with you.
Now ... my adult daughters will look at pictures and say, "I can't believe you dressed me like that." Seriously. It's all my fault.
